What happened
The Governor was welcomed on campus and lit the lamp at the Wall of Gratitude, which honours the individuals, families and foundations whose support built Deepshikha. He then inaugurated the Information Centre, a help desk where families can find out about disability certificates, UDID cards, Niramaya health insurance, railway concessions, legal guardianship and income-tax relief.
He walked through our early-intervention and learning rooms, the craft workshop and the bakery training unit, and spent time with children and adult trainees at work.
People with disabilities do not lack talent. Give them the right opportunity and environment, and they achieve remarkable things.
That was the Governor’s message, as reported by the press. He added that respect, equal opportunity and self-reliance for persons with disabilities are a shared responsibility of government, institutions and citizens. He announced ₹1 lakh from his discretionary grant to support Deepshikha’s work, and presented a Certificate of Gratitude to one of our supporters.
